How can you make a difference?
The Nutrition Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Region Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual consultant to support coordination and technical assistance to countries in the prevention and management wasting, and the implementation of Global Action Plan (GAP) operational plans.
Work Assignment:
The consultant will work under the guidance of the EAPRO CMAM specialist to carry out assignments in the following areas:
- Implementation of the Global Action Plan on wasting (GAP) Roadmaps
- Support regional coordination mechanisms for the implementation of the GAP.
- Contribute to advocacy and communication campaigns on the GAP at regional and country level.
- Support UNICEF countries offices in tracking implementation, knowledge management and exchange between countries.
- Technical Assistance to UNICEF country programs
- Contribute to the provision technical assistance to UNICEF countries to adopt and scale up simplified approaches for early detection and treatment of child wasting.
- Contribute to the technical assistance to countries to carry out operational research to support optimisation of national protocols for care of children with wasting.
- Contribute to the development and country adoption of ASEAN minimum standards for integrating of wasting into primary health care service.
- Development of competency-based preservice curriculum for nutrition
- Contribute to the development of a preservice toolkit for frontline health workers and integration thereof into curriculums for front line health workers in select countries.
- Support pre-testing and feedback from countries and other stakeholders on the draft toolkit and revision of the content.
- Development of e-learning module for treatment of child wasting
- Support coordination of the technical working group to the review the e-learning modules for treatment of child wasting.
- Support liaison between the courseware developer and technical team.
- Support sourcing of video and photographic content for the course.
- Support field testing and revision of the e-learning module for treatment of child wasting to incorporate feedback.
- Knowledge management and reporting
- Support documentation of innovations and country experiences in prevention and treatment of wasting.

Official Travel: Travel to UNICEF/EAPRO, Bangkok and EAP region are expected in agreement with contract supervisor, if possible.
Estimated Duration of Contract: 11.5 months with possibility of extension
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Postgraduate Degree (at least Master’s Degree) in public health or nutrition.
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional work experience, especially in child wasting policy, evidence, advocacy, and programming.
- Demonstrated competency in technical (including peer-reviewed articles) and advocacy writing, reviewing, editing, and production/publication.
- Experience of development on nutrition training curriculum, communication and training.
- Experience of nutrition or health related research and analysis, including formative research is an asset.
- Sound interpersonal skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate people, influence stakeholders and work effectively with people at all levels of the organisation and across multiple organisations and commitment to collaborative work practices.
- Demonstrated sound and wide-ranging oral communication and writing skills in English.
- Competency in computer skills with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, ideally data software (STATA or SPSS).
- Proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and innovate.
- Work within the core values of UNICEF and the standard terms and conditions of UNICEF individual Consultant Contracts
