The European Organisation for Security (EOS) is the voice of the European security industry and research community. Operating in 15 different countries, EOS Members provide security research, solutions, and services across many security domains, including border, cyber, transport and crisis management.
Working as part of the team, to ensure that EOS’ strategies, project and activities are implemented in a timely, robust and effective manner, the post holder will be employed on an internship contract starting ideally from the 1st of August 2021 until the 31st of January 2022.
About the role: INTERNSHIP – Junior Policy and Project Officer
The selected officer will actively work to support, advise, and strengthen EOS in its policy, research, and advocacy work.
The intern will report to EOS CEO and to the Chair and Co-Chairs of one working group.
Main tasks:
- To be responsible for the policy, research, and advocacy work for the identified areas of EOS Working Groups, in collaboration with the Chairs and Co-Chairs.
- Support the Chairs in the management of the working groups and in developing and implementing policy and advocacy proposals relevant to the specific work areas agreed together with EOS members.
- To analyse and monitor relevant legislation, policies, measures, projects and studies at EU and national level, relevant to the designated policy area/s and produce policy briefings and analytical reports in consultation with the relevant working group.
- To develop and implement advocacy strategies towards the most relevant EU institutions and other actors for political change on key issues.
- To contribute to EOS Research endeavours in EU-funded projects.
Other tasks:
- To represent EOS WGs in key events.
- To contribute to the capacity-building of EOS members.
- To liaise with EOS members and facilitate their active engagement in policy and advocacy work
- To contribute to EOS’s external communication, by writing articles for the website, newsletters etc.
- To share in the organisation, support and follow-up of meetings, seminars etc. when appropriate.
- To contribute to developing an effective team approach with other workers to achieve EOS’ mission and objectives.
- Other tasks as deemed appropriate by EOS CEO.
Requirements for the post of Policy Officer
- An academic degree is essential (political science, law, or EU studies) and experience in this fields is required.
- Preferred experience in policy development and conducting advocacy activities towards EU institutions.
- Preferred experience with monitoring policy-making processes at the European level.
- Preferred experience in EU funded projects.
- Preferred experience in researching for policy information.
- Ability to analyse policy documents of EU institutions.
- Preferred experience in formulating policy standpoints of a trade association.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Ability to work in an international context.
- Ability to speak and write fluently in English and French (any other European language is an asset).
- Ability to work as a team member.
