Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
The Web Editor serves as the editor of the American Bar Association website (www.abanet.org) and other ABA Web properties, e-newsletters and promotional e-mails for electronic marketing (e-marketing). Duties include developing the informational hierarchy/navigation, editorial planning, writing or re-purposing content, editing the work of staff and member contributors, proofreading, and collaborating with association staff. Lead the conversion of existing web content to the association content management system (CMS).
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
Content organization and editing.
Writing featured content and summaries.
Headline, subhead, caption and readout writing.
Scheduling and coordinating site features.
Advising entities on content best practices.
Assist in solving technical and production challenges for web content.
Serve as a client liaison to other association departments that use e-marketing services.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university (or equivalent experience).
5+ years as senior writer/editor for web and other forms of e-marketing.
Project management experience.
Professional portfolio of web and e-mail content.
Demonstrated understanding of web design, navigation and usability principles for online content.
Must be familiar with: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project (or similar project management tools), Visio, and Adobe Professional.
Track record of meeting deadlines.
Understanding of integrated marketing principles and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse Marketing staff.
Knowledge of Associated Press style.
Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field agency and/or direct marketing experience a plus.
Experience with content management systems (CMS) a plus
