Major/Essential Functions
The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University, Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer to assist with the teaching missions of the College and Department.
The Lecturer will join a growing department overseeing undergraduate degree programs in Journalism and Creative Media Industries, preparing students to enter fields such as multimedia journalism, film/television, interactive media, photography, and radio/broadcasting, among many others.
EXPECTATIONS AND SALARY:
Lecturers will be based at our Lubbock campus and may teach online, terrestrial, or hybrid courses as part of load of 8 organized courses per academic year (a typical 4-4 load). Lecturers in the College of Media & Communication are compensated at a rate of $55,000 per academic year, plus benefits.
Although summer teaching is not guaranteed, it can be requested, and, when available, would warrant additional compensation. This is an annually renewable position subject to the discretion of the successful candidates direct supervisor. Lecturers may apply and be reviewed for continuing appointment and promotion to Senior Lecturer after six consecutive years of continuous full-time employment.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have completed a masters degree or equivalent professional experience in Journalism, Creative Media Industries, or a closely related field of study by the date of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate evidence of or potential for teaching excellence and have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations. Successful candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
The successful applicant will demonstrate professional experience with writing, editing, and/or producing news, sports, and/or creative content for legacy, digital, or transmedia platforms, as well as the capacity to contribute to the successful delivery of the College of Media & Communications lower-division core curriculum courses.
The ideal candidate will bring experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students, as well as a desire to effectively advise and mentor students outside the classroom.
The Lecturer would ideally hold a Ph.D. in a related field and have professional or teaching experiences that can speak to both the breadth of Media & Communication fields generally, while also being able to effectively specialize in teaching Journalism & Creative Media Industries courses.
