Lifting Hands International is looking for a Logistics and Distribution Manager to start late March / April 2020 in Greece with a minimum three month commitment.

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psycho-social programs.

Role Profile

The duties of this role fall into two main categories.

Warehouse and distributions:

  • Manage the warehouse and stock using Boxtribute software

  • Ensure the resident census is accurate and up to date

  • Supervise a team of resident volunteers who facilitate distributions inside the camp

  • Plan and manage all distributions, including food, clothing, hygiene and diapers

  • Develop the distribution program in line with organisational strategy

  • Complete regular reports to inform senior management and program reviews

  • Supervise international volunteers during regular warehouse shifts

  • Develop a network of local suppliers for distributions in line with budget restrictions

  • Engage with partners and donors to highlight and fulfil distribution needs

Logistics and maintenance:

  • Maintenance of LHI vehicles, apartments and the community centre

  • Coordinate repair or maintenance contractors as required

  • Supervise the garden project at the community centre, including purchasing materials and liaising with the residents involved

  • Develop and supervise a team of resident volunteers who will carry out maintenance at the community center

  • Work under the supervision of the Director over Logistics and Evaluation to maintain oversight of finances

Essential criteria:

  • Previous humanitarian experience, particularly in a distribution or logistics role

  • International drivers licence

  • Previous experience of people management

  • Professional and proactive attitude, able to remain calm under pressure

  • Able to work independently and without constant supervision

  • Able to work well in a large, multicultural team

  • Minimum three month commitment

  • Must be a fluent English speaker

Desirable criteria:

  • Previous experience in a coordination role

  • Understanding of key aid distribution principles

  • Maintenance or construction skills a plus

  • Knowledge of Arabic/Kurmanji/Farsi/Greek

  • Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
