Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a Manager for Development Operations to help support the global efforts of the Development and Outreach Department with its fundraising database. The department recently migrated its fundraising database to Salesforce and currently uses the Nonprofit Success Pack and Marketing Cloud integrated with our digital fundraising and advocacy platform, Engaging Networks, and our financial software, Netsuite. To sustain this initiative, the Development Operations Manager will serve as the focal point for the team’s main Salesforce enhancements and the lead on fundraising reporting and data integrity, while liaising with IT on technology related needs.

This is a 1-year fixed-term position that may be based in any location, preferably near an HRW office in a time zone overlapping with Eastern Standard Time. It will report to the Director of Development Operations stationed in New York, U.S.A.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are currently closed or operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely initially, or as local mandates require. We recognize that this moment, during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate projects and enhancement requests on data entry, data management and data hygiene of our global fundraising database.
    ⦁ Facilitating intake and prioritization of Development staff’s requests.
    ⦁ Liaising with technical team who will execute any technical development work required in Salesforce.
    ⦁ Interfacing with both users and the technical team to support the gathering of all necessary requirements for the requests.
    ⦁ Managing ongoing projects and enhancements.
    ⦁ Simultaneously managing multiple projects and tickets from various stakeholders and ensuring their completion.

  2. Lead on reporting and data visualization for fundraising and outreach strategy.

  3. Manage the relationship with data-reliant teams across the department and organization, including Finance, Leadership gifts and Marketing to support coordinated needs and delivery of reporting and analysis; provide reports, presentations and guidance materials to frontline fundraisers and development leadership.

  4. Oversee the ongoing auditing and maintenance of data cleanliness and accuracy.

  5. Lead on department wide tracking of donors for financial and solicitation reporting and monitoring, including Annual Report donor listings and Fundraising Ratio report.

  6. Gather, create, and document current and future development business process flows while seeking ways to improve current systems and user processes with best practices, as well as ensuring scalability by envisioning planned future use of the system. Focus should be on user needs, user experience, business needs and objectives and solutions should support and increase the business.

  7. Maintain documentation and materials for training of development staff.

  8. Ensure training of development staff on use of Salesforce for business processes.

  9. Provide general support of users, including gift adjustments, investigation of data, general report requests, duplicate merges, and data imports.

  10. Perform other tasks as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of fundraising, project management, or develop management function, with at least two years of Salesforce experience.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Demonstrated collaboration skills, discipline to work independently and a spirit of innovation led by data-driven solutions.

  2. Experience working with Salesforce database system and Nonprofit Success Pack is required.

  3. Previous work experience with a business or fundraising team is highly desirable.

  4. Familiarity with and experience using Salesforce reporting functionality

  5. Proven project management skills, organizational and time-management skills, and ability to work under pressure and multi-task, consistently deliver on established guidelines, protocols, and deadlines.

  6. Experience working with remote teams, leading to productive relationships with a diverse population of colleagues.

  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate data and data management systems to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  8. Work experience with a highly diverse set of language and cultural backgrounds as well as technical skills is a key advantage.

  9. Experience in training staff and creating training resources for staff on the use of the Salesforce database is highly desirable.

  10. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required.

  11. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues is desirable.
