Water and Energy for Food: A Grand Challenge for Development (WE4F) is recruiting External Surveyors to provide monitoring and evaluation support by conducting in-country field research and data collection. Those hired will work with innovators based in the Middle East and North Africa Regional Innovation Hub (MENA RIH) and the South and Southeast Asia Regional Innovation Hub (S/SEA RIH).
Monitoring & Evaluation External Surveyors should be current or recent graduate students with a background in agriculture, water, energy, technology innovation, environmental studies, research methods, international business, and/or international development. External Surveyors will be expected to spend (at minimum) 4-6 weeks in the field during the spring, summer, or fall of 2021.

WHAT IS WE4F?
WE4F is a joint international initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Netherlands, Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). WE4F aims to:

Increase food production along the value chain through a more sustainable and efficient usage of water and/or energy.

Increase income for base of the pyramid women and men in both rural and urban areas.

Sustainably scale innovators’ solutions to meet the challenges in the WE4F nexus.

Promote climate and environmental resilience and biodiversity through the sustainable, holistic management of natural resources and ecosystems.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking graduate students with a background in water, agriculture, technology innovation, quantitative studies, international business, and/or development economics that possess a large majority of the following skills/characteristics:
Required Qualifications:

Quantitative/social science research background with a strong understanding of data validity and experimental design

Knowledge and experience using statistical software (SPSS, SAS, STATA, R) to analyze data sets

Working proficiency in the local language of the countries conducting data collection including but not limited to: French, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Thai, Malay, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, Indonesian, Filipino, Tamil, Sinhala, Burmese, and Nepali.

Comfort operating in rural areas with limited access to technology, and/or improved amenities

Interest in development and social impact and enthusiasm for engaging with data from water, energy, and agriculture innovators

Commitment to producing excellent work while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attentiveness to detail

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing and meeting deadlines

Experience working in a highly diverse environment and a commitment to embrace cultural differences.

A high level of respect and courtesy towards local stakeholders as well as mindfulness and a commitment to do no harm.
Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates residing in the countries of operation for the position who would not need to travel outside of their current country of residence to conduct required data collection.

Prior professional experience in the countries where data collection will be conducted by the External Surveyor

High or native proficiency in the local language of the countries conducting data collection including but not limited to: French, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Thai, Malay, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, Indonesian, Filipino, Tamil, Sinhala, Burmese, and Nepali.
