Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) of Federated States of Micronesia and in close coordination with Head of PSU and with technical guidance from the Regional Media and Communications Officer in Bangkok and the Media and Communications Division (MCD) in Headquarters (HQ), the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of specific external and internal communications outputs.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Research and compile information on communication priorities that increase public understanding and awareness of IOM Micronesia’s work for the CoM.
- Assist with organizing press and public information materials, press releases, web-related documents, briefing notes, and talking points in support of public engagements of the CoM.

Monitor and analyze the impact of external communications regarding IOM Micronesia via IOM’s Content Engine media publication platform. Check if the Country Office’s (CO) public facing website is aligned with IOM standards including as an advocacy tool.

Based on specific instructions and in close coordination with the Regional Media and Communications Officer and the MCD in HQ, draft, edit and collate timely public information materials for IOM’s press briefing notes, global, regional and CO websites, social media, newsletters and other media channels in clear and concise English.

Provide training to local IOM staff and partners on the use of the Community Studio app and the use of Digital Informed Consent.

Participate in coordinating “Media Lines to Take” for colleagues in IOM regarding on-going media requests on emerging issues relating to IOM Micronesia, including crisis/emergency communications.

Under close supervision, contribute inputs for content development for the global IOM-supported campaign It Takes A Community.

Liaise with media counterparts in governmental and non-governmental partner agencies as required. Attend global, regional and/or national UN Communications Groups and relevant interagency media and communication working groups as an observer.

Assist in the development of visibility materials that comply with IOM brand guidelines by drafting specific information inputs intended for presentations, factsheets, videos, as well as project-specific communications and visibility components, including outreach campaigns.

Regularly update the CO’s website, including section pages, articles, news, media galleries, key highlights and figures, etc. in close consultation with respective programme managers.

Research and analyze new technologies or communications platforms and provide preliminary summaries with respect to their utilization.

Check if appropriate gender awareness and cultural sensitivity is incorporated in communications and visibility materials and bring issues to the attention of the CoM or relevant specialists.

Conduct travel duties as required to project sites.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Master’s degree in Journalism, Media Communications, Public Information, International
Relations or a related field from an accredited institution; or
• University degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Experience in digital content creation, including photography, videography, graphic design and
editing is required.
• Experience in international journalism, including coverage of international organizations is required.
• Work experience in the Pacific is an advantage.
• Understanding of social media and solid experience working with UN media partners.
Skills
• Excellent skills in drafting, editing, graphic design and video production.
• Demonstrated photojournalism skills.
• Ability to work on big strategy plans as well as day-to-day tasks.
• Ability to think both creatively and strategically.
• Detailed-oriented, inquisitive, with great follow-up and reporting skills.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
