Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, is searching for a Media Relations Specialist to serve at our IHQ in Boone, NC. A day in the life of a Media Relations Specialist:

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. 

In the role of Media Relations Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Assist with the management of media pitching and generate media coverage for Operation Christmas Child through digital, print, television, and radio outlets across the nation
  • Support the Partnerships & Promotions team with content and marketing requests
  • Help manage creative asset submissions and fulfillment
  • Assist with developing content and managing volunteer database; support Connect conferences
  • Manage media-friendly Twitter strategy by building relationships with reporters and news organizations on the platform and sharing the project’s promotional content, relevant media articles, and retweets from partners and leadership
  • Develop and maintain outreach and partnership data from internal and external sources to support peak season media pitching, response coordination, and reporting
  • Manage select media partnerships and promotions and develop strategies to deepen relationships, ensure deliverables, implement promotion, and conduct end-of-season debriefs and affirmations
  • Work with OCC social media team to develop digital tools and content to meet media partners’ promotional needs
  • Participate in the development of media pitching materials and online learning content
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent professional writing and editing skills, specifically press release and content writing
  • Demonstrated innovator who loves to create
  • Strong communication skills: able to effectively work interdepartmentally, train Associates, interact with customers and vendors
  • Detail-oriented and administrative; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Able to work with minimal direction; highly adaptable to changing demands
  • Enthusiastic problem-solver with a positive attitude

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field and three (3) to five (5) years professional experience; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.

Language Requirement: Fluency in English

Travel Expectations: Less than 5%
