Scope of Work
The MENA Research Officer will work with the iMMAP research and analysis team to provide in-depth quantitative and qualitative analytical support to MENA focused projects. Roles may include, but are not limited to, conducting Arabic and English language desk research, analysis of local stakeholders and governance structures, and conducting follow-up research with field staff. Particular areas of focus will include contextual developments in Syria, Iraq, and surrounding regions. The MENA Research Officer will report to the relevant Component and Project Leads.
This position is contingent on award of funding.
Description of Duties
The MENA Research Officer will primarily be involved in conducting research, analysis, and report writing based upon the team’s MENA research needs. The MENA Research Officer will contribute to research design and representation of the iMMAP R&A team in various fora. MENA Research Officer roles include:
- Provide high quality research to the iMMAP Research and Analysis team enabling evidence-based representation from the field and ensure documentation is supported;
- Utilize both open source research and field research resources to look into cross-sectoral issues in the region as needed;
- Contribute to research design, methodological development and strategic planning for iMMAP’s Research and Analysis Unit;
- Utilize the R&A units resources and networks to maintain an informed understanding of political, economic, and social developments in areas relevant to the Unit’s activities for inclusion in analysis and timely alerting of appropriate actors;
- Contribute to production of regular written reports and dashboards;
- Coordinate closely with iMMAP technical specialists in support of data collection, visualization, imagery and GIS;
- Contribute to Requests for Information from partners , as needed; and,
- Additional tasks as needed, contributing to iMMAP global projects.
Requirements
- Degrees in international relations, international law, political science or related field.
- Proven experience in reporting on conflict and analysis in the MENA region.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the political, cultural, and humanitarian context of the region.
- Experience with contextual and predictive analysis based on quantitative and qualitative findings.
- Ability to operate in cross-cultural environment and work independently.
- Understanding of and/or proficiency in data collection platforms, GIS software, and data visualization platforms an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required.
- Fluency in English speaking and writing required. Proficiency in spoken and written Arabic highly desired.
