Monitoring Specialist

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Under the direct supervision of Education Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Efficient monitoring and data management system is maintained for the education projects and in place to provide updated information for the education programme monitoring and progress measuring.
  • Statistics, data and information necessary for reporting on education programme /projects performance indicators (Outputs and activities), are collected and analysed.
  • The monitoring and data management capacities of education staff and national partners are strengthened, enabling them to increasingly engage in and lead monitoring and data management processes.
  • Electronic monitoring and tracking system are developed for Education A child (EAC) Project achievements, including OOSC enrolment and retention database.
  • Electronic monitoring and tracking system are developed for Integration and mainstreaming of refugee children into the Sudanese education system (IRCSES) Project baseline, achievements, including the school’s database.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.


Master degree or equivalent


Master degree in Education, social sciences, development planning, planning, evaluation, survey implementation, advanced statistical research.


36 Months

Experience in education programme development and implementation including monitoring and evaluation activities will be an asset.

  • English(Mandatory), Level – Fluent
  • Arabic(Mandatory), Level – Working Knowledge


Education policy and planning, curriculum development and teacher training, Monitoring and evaluation

Computer skills: Microsoft office applications, Statistical Software packages “SPSS, Stata”, Database Design software applications.
