The USAID-funded Workplace Advancement for Gender Equality (WAGE) project under the Making Cities Work Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract implemented by Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Network Sustainability Consultant position.
The objective of WAGE is to continue adapting and scaling up USAID’s efforts to increase gender equality and women’s economic empowerment opportunities within traditionally male-dominated sectors.
WAGE is responsible for managing and supporting the Women in African Power Network (WiAP). This entails providing demand-driven support to gender activities implemented through Power Africa Task Orders. This consultancy will develop and implement a capacity building program focused on facilitating the development of sustainability plans for three women’s energy networks in East Africa – Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia – to achieve financial and institutional sustainability. These three networks have so far been supported by the Power Africa East Africa Energy Program (EAEP) from establishment to implementing other initiatives specific to each of the networks. EAEP will help coordinate communication between Tetra Tech, the consultant, and EAEP.
The level of effort is up to 20 days. This assignment will be conducted virtually, and the consultant will report to the WAGE Chief of Party.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement systematic approach to assess the current levels of organizational capacity and financial sustainability of three women’s energy networks in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia (networks are at different stages of development).
* Develop a tailored approach to build the capacity for organizational and financial sustainability with each network.
* Financial sustainability: Through virtual meetings, guided sessions, and workshops with individual networks, assess current and forecast future, expenses and revenues needed to run a growing organization 3-5 years in the future. Develop a comprehensive set of options for generating operational revenues, including gift/grant and earned income. Support institution to develop a plan to pursue these options.
* Organizational sustainability: Assess the capacity of networks to sustainably operate over the next 3-5 years. This will include identifying staffing, resource, and other administrative gaps and proposing approaches to addressing those gaps.
Deliverables:
* Drafts of any tools or resources used and/or developed during the course of the consultancy
* Individualized plans for each network to achieve organizational and financial sustainability
* A copy of meeting schedule, activity outputs, and participant list.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in international development, management, or equivalent field. Master’s degree preferred.
* 8 to 10 years of experience working to improve or build the capacity of organizations, associations, grantees, or private sector companies.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with strategic plans, and revenue and expense budgets.
* Ability to adaptively manage capacity building implementation and trainings.
* Prior experience on a USAID-funded project or similar donors, preferred.
* Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate, and monitor tasks.
* Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and as a good communicator.
* Demonstrated effectiveness in taking initiative and resolving difficulties.
* Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Power Point.
* Fluent in spoken and written English.
