THIS IS AN INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUTER POSITION – CANDIDATES CAN BE BASED IN ANY LOCATION OR COUNTRY.
This is a key position in the Global Safety and Security Unit (GSSU) responsible for maintaining efficient and value-added health, safety and security systems, tools and communication platforms. The position provides direct support to the two Senior Advisors as well as support to the regional members of the GSSU. This position will initiate the GSSU’s internal communication strategy and support core components of the agency’s safety and security function and health and staff care initiatives.
Roles and Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Manage and promote department policies and initiatives relating to the implementation and promotion of health, safety and security best practices and use of department systems and compliance with policies on safety, security, health, travel and crisis management.
- Co-manage ongoing technical and procedural configuration of the global incident reporting system as a System Administrator, while also providing direct support and training to all levels of users.
- Support Director of Security and Senior Advisors with drafting, dissemination and upkeep of policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Oversee the travel security system and support compliance with related policies by regularly auditing system and usage data and onboarding internal users.
- Security and health management and risk information disseminated in written or oral format to Director of Safety and other key stakeholders to enable them to make timely and informed critical decisions.
- Manage relationships with security information vendors, train staff in the usage of such platforms, and promote best practices.
- Conduct quality control and compliance checks on all mandatory country level security management related documents and plans.
- As directed, provide tactical support to internal incident and crisis management teams during critical incidents
Communication
- Create, build out and maintain the GSSU’s internal communication strategy and associated campaigns.
- Promote department initiatives, draft agency-wide communication, including all-staff emails; web page content and structure; documents such as one-pagers, user guides, and training manuals; internal social media campaigns; and webinars.
- Maintain and ensure optimum use of CRS Security SharePoint portal and related sites and pages.
- In coordination with the Director and Senior Advisors, prepare quarterly board reports, bi-weekly executive summaries, quarterly safety and security incident overviews, the annual report and ad-hoc communication for high-level executives.
- Cultivate and coordinate CRS’ global community of practice for security focal points and other interested parties to encourage learning and implementation of best practices in the area of health, safety and security risk management.
Information Analysis and Reporting
- Act as department focal point for security risk analysis, both in the creation of analysis products, and to support global, regional and country security leads in their own analysis initiatives.
- Promote best practices for open-source information monitoring, identifying and promoting analysis training opportunities to staff and partners, and maintaining current knowledge of open-source aggregation methods.
- Provide coordination and quality control support to all security risk assessment processes and findings
- Conduct regular data cleaning within the incident system and provide data and trend analysis for the quarterly and annual reports.
- Support data gathering during initial security assessments before the opening of new CRS offices or closure of existing offices.
- Maintain memberships in and share security information from external parties including UNDSS, OSAC, GISF, INSO, Insecurity Insight, ACLED, and other networks.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, such as political science, international relations, marketing and communication, or related field.
Technical/Professional:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in an operational and communication support function
- Experience in safety and security, humanitarian, development, programmatic, or emergency operations at an (international) aid organization, or as part of a safety or security related program in the private or public sector, desirable.
- Experience drafting communication on behalf of and for high-level internal decision-makers.
- Experience communicating complex information both orally and in writing to non-native English speakers across time zones.
- Experience in managing or supporting internal marketing and communication initiatives.
- Experience leveraging open sources to research security threats, trends, and contexts, both in an immediate and long-term timeframe in the public or private sector, using social media to conduct threat research focused on risk a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- International NGO Safety and Security Association (INSSA) Security Risk Management Professional Certificate at Country and/or Regional level.
