Operating under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General since 2012, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) mobilizes scientific and technical expertise to support sustainable development at the local, national and global levels. We are a small but mighty team consisting of policy leaders, program managers, data scientists, professors and operations experts promoting integrated approaches to the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. The SDSN mobilizes expertise from a global network of more than 1,400 member institutions and works closely with United Nations agencies, academia, and civil society.
The SDSN is hosted by the SDSN Association, a 501(c)(3) organization based in New York.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The SDSN Association is seeking a dynamic and talented professional to provide guidance on compliance and support in management of financial and operational tasks. The Payroll and Human Resources Associate will manage the payroll process for the New York team at SDSN and provide human resources support to the team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage entire payroll cycle and perform various Human Resources duties:
- Prepare offer letters for incoming staff and other appointees
- Organize employee personnel files and other HR-related documents
- Manage employee onboarding / termination as it pertains to pay, tax withholding, and deductions for benefits
- Maintain data base of personnel information including benefit elections and contributions
- Provide up to date advice to senior management and staff supervisors on HR-related compliance requirements for the organization and process required filings
- Review and contribute to the development of SDSN policies and procedures
- Manage disability and paid family leave claims; coordinate related payroll submissions
- Input bi-monthly payroll information to ADP interface
- Extract and validate payroll requirements for each payroll
- Manage the organization’s time recording and certification process, help prepare corresponding payroll entries, and upload data to SDSN’s financial system (Intacct)
- Run reports to validate and analyze compensation expense
- Review and approve employee benefits invoices
- Manage the benefits enrollment and renewal processes
- Serve as main point of contact for staff to liaise with benefit service providers
- Assist with organization audits
- Support the budgeting and reporting processes by providing compensation information.
- Provide support to Finance team by performing various bookkeeping, reporting and analytical and administrative support.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible payroll experience, preferably within a nonprofit finance department. Accounting degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant human resources experience
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel with unfailing accuracy, experience with ADP payroll and accounting software preferred
- Working knowledge and understanding of multiple state income tax withholdings, benefit plans and general accounting. Understanding of filing requirements of W2s, 1099’s, quarterly tax filings, and labor law requirements
- Internal customer-service orientation and attitude

- Impeccable integrity and trustworthiness, with an ability to handle sensitive information and situations effectively and confidentially
- Excellent organizational skills
- Analytical, proactiveness and problem-solving abilities

- Ability to work closely and proactively with all levels of colleagues, including senior management and Finance colleagues in multiple locations around the world
- Written and spoken fluency in English, with a high degree of professionalism
LOGISTICS
- Location: This position will be based in New York City, NY (Please note that candidates must have prior authorization to work in the United States, as we are unable to sponsor visas at this time)
- Contract Length: This appointment is valid for a period of 12 months, subject to renewal
- Hours: Full time
- Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
