UNICEF provides support to the Republic of Serbia’s reform processes to ensure that child rights are realized for every child in the areas of early childhood development, education, child protection, youth and adolescent development. Specifically, we are providing evidence, modelling solutions that can be brought to scale, and engaging in continuous policy dialogue to make sure that no child is left behind. At the same time, our task is also to be the independent voice of children – to point out the gaps, breaches and violations of child rights.

Under the direct supervision of the UNICEF Communication Officer, the consultant will document in photography the situation of children and women in Serbia and UNICEF’s activities across the country.

Terms of Work and Copyright:

  • Photographers provide all necessary photographic equipment.
  • A selection of 5 to 10 photographs will be sent to UNICEF via e-mail 2 hours after the event, with full caption. The rest of photographs, where appropriate, will be sent the following morning by 10 o’clock at the latest.
  • UNICEF Serbia has first selection rights to all photos taken on the assignment with concomitant rights in perpetuity. 
  • All originals not selected by UNICEF shall be returned to the photographers with accompanying rights.

Work Assignment Overview:

Task 1: To carry out professional photographic coverage of the situation of children and women in Serbia, UNICEF and UNICEF-supported programme activities and programmes, with priorities defined by UNICEF for each specific assignment.

Deliverables:

  • Digital images in high resolution (300 pixels/inch: minimum size 3000 x 1900 pixels; TIF format) and the same selection in lower resolution (1000 pixels longer edge, JPG format)
  • First 10 photos sent via mail two hours after the event/photo session will be in the following web format – photo size 25 pixels, width 380 pixels.

Task 2: To provide complete caption information in English and Serbian languages for each photograph, including title of the event or whether UNICEF-assisted programme, location, date, names of persons in the photographs, age if a child is photographed.

Deliverables: All digital photographs must contain complete caption information in “file info” (when opened in Photoshop). Caption information will include date, name of all specific locations and activities, whether UNICEF-assisted place, persons’ names and age, and brief description of the situation photographed.

Task 3:

To submit to UNICEF Photography subject release form(s) signed by parents or legal guardian(s) of children under the age of 18.

Deliverables: Photography subject release form(s)

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • Professional photographers with sensitivity for working with children and adolescents
  • Fluency in Serbian and English languages
  • Experience in working with UNICEF is an asset

How to apply:

The application must include a financial proposal in RSD as a separate document, providing the fees for:

  1. Up to 1 work hour, with minimum 25 photographs in jpeg in high resolution and optimized for web,
  2. 1 to 2 work hours, with up to 40 photographs in jpeg in high resolution and optimized for web,
  3. 2 to 3 work hours, with up to 60 photographs in jpeg in high resolution and optimized for web,
  4. Full day, with up to 100 photographs in jpeg in high resolution and optimized for web,
  5. Daily allowance for an overnight stay outside Belgrade (including accommodation).

Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

UNICEF has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and UNICEF, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination. UNICEF also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks, and will be expected to adhere to these standards and principles.
