Planning and Support Officer

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Under the supervision of the Senior Planning and Support Advisor, the UNV will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide support to Senior Planning and Support Adviser in necessary planning and support to the OEA office activities.
  • Works in close collaboration with the project staff to provide technical support for team’s integration into UNAMI Iraqi-wide structure in line with the later policies, principles and standards applied in the country.
  • Support Planning and Support team in identifying potential problems, solutions and/or alternative courses of action to accelerate/improve programme delivery
  • Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot for ongoing project field operations.
  • Enable continuous updating of priority support actions, status and required follow up for Project Offices working in harmony with colleagues in different sections and agencies sources
  • Compile and consolidate a weekly report on the unit activity as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist and support the Head of Section in the compilation of briefings and reporting.
  • Conduct periodic field visits to the OEA field offices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Bachelor degree or equivalent


  • A first-level university degree, in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Public Administration, or a related field.


24 Months

  • A minimum of two years progressively responsible experience in electoral assistance; supervising, implementing, supporting or advising on electoral processes is required;
  • Experience in developing countries is required, and experience in post-conflict situations is desirable;
  • Experience providing services to or in a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of UN rules, regulations, policies and procedures an asset;

  • English(Mandatory), Level – Fluent
  • Arabic(Mandatory), Level – Working Knowledge


Election support activities, Election management

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point;
