Job Summary
The Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Training Manager (PMEL Training Manager) will join the growing MfR team, increasing the planning, monitoring and evaluation capacity of the team. The PMEL Training Manager will develop and provide targeted training focused on best practices in PMEL. The PMEL Training Manager will develop training materials focused on PMEL fundamentals and how to apply them in the new M&E system at WRI. WRI is looking for someone with a passion for training professionals in multicultural settings.
This position is ideal for someone with an interest in technical areas that WRI works in, has experience trainings adults, and is a subject matter expert in PMEL practices. The PMEL Training Manager’s immediate team will consist of the MfR team, reporting to the Senior Associate PMEL, but will work closely with the Manager, Strategy Development in the Cities Program, as well as colleagues across the Institute, including our International Offices. Until April 1, 2022, this position will be shared between the Cities Program and MfR. The two teams have a shared objective to improve the quality of monitoring and evaluation to assist teams with adaptive management and rigorous analysis of programmatic work to drive learning. This position plays a key role in ensuring that as WRI adopts a new monitoring and evaluation system (DevResults), that teams are able to access quality trainings and technical support materials, and that a network of staff with MEL capacity supports improved practices throughout WRI. This shared position ensures that the tailoring of the M&E trainings to support improved M&E practices and system adoption is informed by the Global Challenges and International Offices. MfR, working closely with the largest Global Challenge, with 70% of its employees based in the International Offices, helps ensure that the trainings and the M&E system are designed for the intended users. This position will work closely with other teams throughout WRI to ensure that the content and the delivery provides maximum benefits to users. The PMEL Training Manager will employ the LearnWRI platform to ensure open access to training materials and track trainee performance to analyze effectiveness of training content. The PMEL Training Manger will also work with the external M&E system firm (DevResults) to ensure consistency of content, as needed.
This position can be based out of any of the WRI offices worldwide. This position is a full time, limited term position ending April 1, 2022.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify training needs in collaboration with the MfR and Cities teams, refining training materials with inputs from colleagues throughout the Institute
- Lead the development of training materials focused on MEL fundamentals and the use of WRI’s M&E system; including but not limited to online self- directed modules with facilitated online group webinars, workshops, and discussions, videos, manuals and guides, and other training materials
- Work with and manage contracted developer of training modules, as needed
- Design training modules that are accessible on LearnWRI
- Integrate trainings developed and given by DevResults into WRI’s M&E training modules to ensure seamless support for learning best practices in M&E and how to apply them in day to day work at WRI
- Responsible for designing and delivering trainings and guidance in collaboration with the Sr. Associate PMEL and Strategy and Performance Manager for Cities, on M&E, strategy development and theory of change, and how to develop robust MEL frameworks along a ToC
- Ensure lessons learned through PMEL training processes are captured and shared to advance the application of best practices throughout the organization
- Integrate cutting-edge thinking and approaches into WRI’s trainings
- Develop and Implement a “Training of Trainers” approach in WRI’s International Offices for the Cities Program to support enhanced PMEL practices (time permitting)
- Monitor the trainings on LearnWRI and trainees’ application of knowledge in the new M&E system Other responsibilities as identified
Job Qualifications
- Master’s degree with preference for degrees in education, public policy, economics, political science, environmental studies, or related field or a Bachelor’s degree with 2additional years of experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of full-time work experience in a relevant field, with demonstrated experience in training, monitoring, evaluation, project design and implementation
- Demonstrated experience training adults, preferably in developing results frameworks, monitoring and evaluation plans, or related subject areas
- Experience working with international teams
- Experience developing technical trainings and setting up monitoring system to track effectiveness of trainings
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple assignments at one time, and see project through to completion
- Superb attention to detail
- Friendly, positive demeanor and determined attitude
- Sense of humor and team-focused
- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Sector-specific knowledge and experience related to WRI’s work in Food, Forests, Water, Energy, Cities, Climate and the Ocean would be an added advantage, but not necessary
