The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation.

To assist in the development and implementation of HD’s project in Yemen, HD is currently looking for one full time (100%) or two part time (50%):

Political Advisor(s), Yemen
Flexible location (outside Switzerland)
Starting date: As soon as possible

The Political Advisor(s) will have the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute in identifying entry points for mediation and dialogue initiatives in Yemen;
  • Support the development of project activities by contributing to the Yemen team’s understanding of the situation and conflict analysis, with weekly written updates and regular oral briefings;
  • Design of mediation strategies and processes;
  • Prepare meetings between HD and relevant Yemeni stakeholders;
  • Develop HD’s network through outreach to influential individuals or groups;
  • Ensure the smooth running of HD events and meetings in the MENA region through on-site support and assist in taking minutes, collecting and compiling meeting information;
  • Assist in liaising with Yemeni participants for travel arrangements.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should ideally meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree in international relations, law, politics or mediation;
  • Strong political analysis skills, political and cultural knowledge of the Middle East region;
  • Knowledge of or commitment to conflict resolution and related humanitarian issues;
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar function;
  • Willing and able to travel in and out of Yemen;
  • Strong command of English and fluent in spoken Arabic.

Personality: The successful candidate should be capable working on several projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. S/he must be a flexible team player and have strong social, communication and organisational skills.
