Postdoctoral Associate-Bioinformatics

Summary

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on bioinformatics analyses related to two NIH-funded projects focused on studying (i) molecular bases of lung development and (ii) somatic mosaicism in humans.  The postdoctoral position is available in the Stankiewicz lab at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to study genetic aspects of lethal lung developmental disorders with the goal to identify novel genes and mechanisms of gene regulation in lung development as well as biomarkers that can be translated to the clinic. We are also analyzing next generation sequencing data for the presence of low-level parental somatic mosaicism in different tissues. You can learn more about our research at https://www.bcm.edu/people/view/pawel-stankiewicz-m-d-ph-d/b2310add-ffed-11e2-be68-080027880ca6.

– Training provided: grant application preparation.
– Growth Available: daily access to lectures and seminars at BCM, participation in domestic conferences, meetings, and dept. retreats.
– Working with cutting edge technologies or techniques: next generation sequencing (long read NGS, whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq).

Job Duties

• Manage and upgrade the server and pipelines for processing the data of next generation sequencing of DNA, RNA (RNA-seq), and Chip-seq on his lab server.
• Design and conduct logical scientific experiments, perform data analysis, show competency in troubleshooting, present results to the research group in weekly meetings.
• Summary of research findings in scientific manuscripts to be published in research or clinical journals, prepare project reports, grant proposals, and abstracts.
• Collaboration with the genomics team in the lab.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics or computer science (with experience in bioinformatics  analyses).
  • Preferably a couple of years of postdoctoral experience, with first author publication(s).
  • Genomic analyses: next generation sequencing – DNA and transcriptome, 3D chromatin structure.
  • Prior experience in the area of bioinformatics in genetics is a plus.
