Summary
A postdoctoral position is available in the Fu laboratory in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine for a translational research project studying the role of circadian homeostasis in tumor suppression, focusing on obesity-related liver cancer. The candidates are expected to have training background in molecular and cellular biology and mouse genetics as well as good interpersonal skills for teamwork and will join one of our exciting research projects. The lab uses state-of-the-art technologies including targeted gene expression studies as well as global gene expression profiling, such as RNAseq, whole genome sequencing (WGS), ChIP-seq, in vivo nuclear run-on, proteomics and metabolomics in combination with animal models and pathological and biomarker analyses to define the pathophysiological mechanism and therapeutic targets specific to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Job Duties
- Works with the PI for hypothesis development and experimental design.
- Performs bench work using various molecular biology techniques and taking the major responsibility in one of the major research projects in the lab.
- Collaborateswith clinicians and bioinformaticians in the department and other members in the Fu lab for various research projects.
- Participates in data processing, discussion, analysis and reporting as well as manuscript preparation and conference presentations.
- Helps the PI and team in managing the lab.
- Mentors junior lab members.
- Applies fellowships.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior training in molecular biology, mouse genetics and disease models. Especially, the expertise studying mRNA expression, subcellular fragmentation, and protein-protein, protein-RNA, and protein-DNA interactions are preferred.
- Prior first author publications in peer reviewed journals.
- A recent Ph.D degree with less than two year experience in post-doctoral training.
- Highly motivated to pursue an independent career in translational biomedical research.
- Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork kills.
