The Program

BEQUAL supports education priorities of the Government of Laos described in the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) Education Sector Development Plan and is aligned with the strategic directions set out in Australia’s Education Delivery Strategy. BEQUAL is designed to be implemented over a total of 10 years. Phase 1 has been extended until June 2022. BEQUAL will continue to support MoES with the primary curriculum reform with a focus on primary curriculum development, teacher professional development and integration of inclusive education principles.

The Position

The Primary Curriculum Development Specialist is a member of BEQUAL’s Primary Curriculum Development Team and is responsible for working closely with MoES Research Institute for Educational Sciences (RIES) writing teams on the development of primary curriculum teaching and learning materials – supporting integration of the new pedagogy and ensuring suitability for a low resource environment, gender sensitivity, inclusivity of disabled children and of disadvantaged groups and alignment with child protection principles.

The Person

The ideal candidate has relevant tertiary qualifications in primary education and/or professional training and development. You will have demonstrated experience in developing age appropriate teaching and learning materials, preferably for primary grades, working collaboratively with government counterparts, and a sound knowledge of issues of inclusive education specifically related to gender, ethnicity and disability.

Along with effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will display self-motivation and the ability to work effectively as an individual or as part of a flexible, dynamic and culturally diverse team. Together with your good English proficiency (written and spoken), your ability to maintain a high standard of work and attention to detail, you will display strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Experience teaching at primary school or similar teaching experience is desirable.
