POSITION: Professor, History
Description of Duties: Teach courses and help colleagues develop a robust history program in the Liberal Arts Division. Teach fifteen (15) credit hours per semester (30 hours in an academic year) of history classes each semester. Work with appropriate representatives’ including publishers, bookstore personnel and Adjunct Professors’ to ensure proper textbook and course materials are available each semester. Recommend applicants to the Dean and Associate Dean for potential adjunct teaching opportunities in the Liberal Arts Division. Prepare curriculum agendas to ensure courses and programs remain current academically and with the college’s mission. Assist with Adjunct faculty training, lesson development, and assessment of courses and programs. Develop relationships with in-state four-year institutions for course transferability and cultivate relationships with educational and public institutions (museums, Indian tribes, cultural centers, historical associations, out-of-state universities) to enhance the academic experiences for history majors. Work closely with other disciplines to ensure students in history are on the correct path for successful graduation. Remain abreast of current academic trends and changes in best practices for history courses and programs, including smart technology and online delivery methods. Have demonstrated ability to use flexible delivery methods to accommodate individual learning style, including proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word and Outlook), video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas. Work with other campus offices and services available to students to assist in the enrollment and completion of history classes. Work with the Division to develop and implement strategies to assess and support student success. Work closely with history majors to ensure successful articulation into surrounding four-year programs. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties in the Division as assigned by the Dean. Work under the general supervision of the Dean, Liberal Arts Division.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in History or Master’s Degree and eighteen (18) graduate hours in History and two (2) years of college teaching experience. Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Light lifting up to 10 lbs and light carrying up to 10 lbs required. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping.
Desired Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in History. Three (3) years college teaching including online course delivery experience. Community College teaching experience.
