The candidate for the Professor of Practice in Communication will be principally engaged in teaching and service. The ideal candidate should possess the following required qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in journalism or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional industry experience showcasing promotion through the ranks of reporter to editor, etc.
- Evidence in working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is desired.
Other preferred qualifications include:
- Proof of ongoing innovation and leadership in digital media, as well as cutting-edge approaches in communication for social justice.
- Interest in undergraduate teaching in the department, in Cabrini University’s Justice Matters core curriculum, and in Cabrini’s Honors program; previous college-level teaching and advising experience is a plus.
- Desire to work collaboratively and collegially in support of the department’s and the university’s goals.
- Desire to maintain professional activities that inform the teaching of journalism and new media.
Job Description Summary
The Department of Communication at Cabrini University seeks an experienced professional to teach undergraduate courses in digital communication with an emphasis in journalism. The ideal candidate for this full-time, non-tenure-track position for a Professor of Practice in Communication will possess industry experience and substantial demonstrated expertise in journalism and new media. The candidate will teach beginning and advanced news writing and reporting courses, as well as digital news production courses. The candidate will also serve as a key member of the department’s Student Media Advising Team. Members of this team mentor and guide the department’s student media leaders who are responsible for the daily production and dissemination of informative media on its online and social platforms.

The Department of Communication at Cabrini is home to a diverse population of students representing a multitude of races, cultures, identities and experiences. The candidate for this position will be expected to employ culturally responsive teaching methods to best educate students in this multicultural environment. In addition, the candidate will also be expected to collaborate closely with faculty colleagues in the department to create converged media projects that have a social justice and solutions journalism focus.
This position exists within a department that responds quickly to new trends and is a leader among small colleges in curriculum development. The person best suited to excel in this role is someone committed to helping a diverse student body navigate emerging platforms and technologies, and who gets excited about utilizing innovative approaches to teaching journalism and new media.
Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to teach between 12 – 15 credits per semester (Fall and Spring). In addition to teaching and developing new curriculum, the candidate will be expected to advise student media leaders, engage in departmental and university-wide service, and nurture contacts with media professionals in the Philadelphia market.
