SUMMARY: Provides administrative and logistical support to the Political Parties Team and assists with program support to regional teams. In addition, this position includes monitoring political developments and assisting with research on political party organizing practices and party programming. The Political Parties Team is responsible for advising and assisting NDI’s regional teams and local and international partners in the development and implementation of political party programs around the world. This position, 18 months with the possibility of extension if funding permitting, is based in Washington, DC and the anticipated start date is May 10, 2021.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Political Parties and close supervision of senior team staff, the Program Assistant will: 

  • Assist the team in developing program concepts, participating in strategic discussions and reviewing and contributing to program proposals and budgets for political party programs across the Institute;
  • Monitor global trends and approaches in political party organizing ;
  • Provide logistical support to the Team including arranging travel and managing logistics for meetings and conferences;
  • Assist with the Team’s social media presence;
  • Contribute to various written documents specific to the Team;  
  • Organize team files and contact databases and ensure they are up-to-date; 
  • Create initial drafts of budgets, prepare expense reports and monitor expenses against budget;
  • Assist with the collection of best practices and lessons learned in party programming;
  • Facilitate communication/collaboration between the Political Parties Team and other NDI teams and international partners;
  • Anticipate administrative needs and, with guidance, take appropriate action; and other administrative support as needed

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Relations, Political Science or a related field. Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis;
  • Demonstrated coursework and/or internships in international development, community organizing, political campaigning, organizational development, legislative affairs or related subject;
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the development of democratic political parties;
  • Exceptional professional writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience and high degree of comfort communicating with senior management and other high level stakeholders;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired;
  • Computer skills, especially those related to graphic design (InDesign), web design and social media, strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines; and
  • French or Spanish language ability preferred

Interviews for this position slated to begin in late April, 2021. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.

As a result of COVID-19, this position will start in a remote capacity. However, when the office re-opens, this position will be based in our Washington, DC office and the expectation is that the staff member would be based locally to fulfill this obligation. NDI does not cover relocation costs for this position.
