Who We Are

At IREX we strive for a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world—where individuals reach their full potential, governments serve their people and communities thrive.

But around the globe, persistent poverty, repression, and injustice prevent too many people form achieving their full potential. To address these problems, we focus on people, not on vaccines, roads, or wells. We support individuals and institutions to create change in their own communities—and to create person to person bridges between nations.

IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries in four areas essential to progress: cultivating leaders, empowering youth, strengthening institutions, and increasing access to quality education and information.

IREX seeks Program Coordinator candidates for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Community Engagement Exchange Program (CEE). The program will support emerging community leaders, ages 20-27, from approximately 100 countries who are starting careers in the civil society sector, to spend three-months in the United States in an immersive civil society exchange that includes a professional practicum and provides opportunities to cultivate leadership skills, develop actionable projects, establish career goals that support engaged and inclusive communities, and builds capacity for civil society.

Under the supervision of program managers, the program coordinator will serve as the main point of contact for a portfolio of fellows, providing mentorship and coaching, coordinating payments, and maintaining accurate fellow and financial records. The program coordinator will lead and/or provide backstopping support for specific program components such as pre-departure orientation, DS-2019 and J-1 visa processing, fellow recruitment/selection (including working with the online application), workshop/conference planning, participant travel, digital learning, survey analysis, and/or report writing. The Program Coordinator will also contribute their skills and knowledge to all activities and carry out additional duties and tasks to meet the needs of the organization, team, or as assigned by supervisor.

We are doers. Our decades of on-the-ground experience help us create greater impact, practical recommendations, and lasting partnerships.
