Samaritan’s Purse helps to build communities by constructing houses, schools, hospitals, and churches. Our projects provide shelter for families who lost everything in disasters, education opportunities to help break the cycle of poverty, facilities for physical and spiritual healing, and places to build up the body of Christ.  The Program Manager, Recovery and Development works in assigned regions of disaster aftermath in recovery and rebuilding. They supervise field staff and lead volunteers, coordinate and partner with churches, local governments, and other relief agencies, and assists the Director, Recovery and Development, in daily tasks. This position will require substantial overnight travel to project locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Maintain “real time” awareness of all site activities and all aspects of ongoing projects.
  • Reviews and evaluates field staff performance on behalf of the Manager, US Recovery & Development.
  • Fill in for on site for staff in any position should they be out of the office for an extended period of time due to vacation, sickness, or termination.
  • Manage smaller, short-term rebuilding projects in which a full time staff will not be hired.  This will include being able to manage volunteers in all phases of construction.
  • Assist Manager, Recovery and Development, in periodic jobsite and project visits to ensure the success and quality of each project.
  • Lead and assist with in-house building projects.
  • Oversee construction and other work done by independent contractors.
  • Track tools and their condition and provide as needed to on site teams.
  • When on site, greet and welcome volunteer teams; make daily visits to work sites; assist with delivery of tools and supplies as needed.
  • Communicate and minister to disaster victims, keeping them informed of the team’s work.
  • Work with local churches to ensure follow-up with homeowners and program continuation after Samaritan’s Purse is gone.
  • Handle conflict resolution as necessary with staff, volunteer teams, homeowners, churches, or other agencies.
  • Understand and ensure adherence to all safety policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

When onsite, manages 10-18 subordinate staff including the Project Superintendent, Office Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, Case Worker, Construction Foremen, Construction Workers, Cook and 15-40 volunteers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; and one to three (3) years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Contractor’s License helpful, but not required.  A Class A (Restricted) Commercial Driver’s License is helpful, but not required.
