The Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) is a national Kenyan not-for-profit women’s rights organization. COVAW was founded in 1995 as a response to the silence of the Kenyan society to address VAWG. COVAW implements projects under five (5) strategic focus areas including: Access to Comprehensive Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Services; Women’s Economic Empowerment; Women’s Leadership Development; Access to Justice; and Institutional Development.
COVAW is now looking to recruit a Program Officer-Resource Mobilisation
JOB SUMMARY
The Resource Mobilization Officer will be responsible for building an increasingly, diversified network of resource partners including development partners, corporates, academia, policy-makers, philanthropists and foundations. The officer will target partners who share in the vision of COVAW and provide funds, technical support and other forms of collaboration to meet the current and future needs of COVAW. The officer will also be responsible for establishing and promoting the brand of COVAW regionally and internationally, raising awareness about the organization’s work at various forums and ensuring transparency and regular information sharing with the public. The officer will be a strategic thinker with strong understanding of various media sources and the development sector. This role is responsible for providing leadership in the implementation of COVAW’s resource mobilization strategy in response to the emerging opportunities and challenges applying. The officer will be expected to apply an entrepreneurial approach to develop and submit high quality institutional and high value donor proposals and tender bids that are aligned with defined priorities, demonstrate impact, and offer value for money.
The officer will be proactive in identifying new and non-traditional sources of funding from a range of institutional donors and working to leverage COVAW’s funding prospects. The officer will also build the capacity to develop and manage strategic consortium partnerships with other NGOs and private sector organizations where appropriate.
Reporting: The Program Officer-Resource Mobilisation will report to the Executive Director.
KEY RESULT AREAS
- Implementation of the COVAW Resource Mobilisation Strategy in line with the organisations strategic plan.
- Research and identification of relevant resources includes identify Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Applications (RFAs), guide and coordinate responses.
- Achieve appealing proposals and concepts and effective communication with donor focal points. Includes being COVAW’s focal point for resource mobilisation and sustainability activities.
- Donor Engagement and partnership building • Networking, updating, and liaising with key in-country and international donors.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager and Programs Manager on reporting and compliance management.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Familiarise themselves with the COVAW Strategic Plan and programs, related trends in the women’s rights sector and apply informed analysis in the development of resource mobilisation interventions.
- Conduct research on potential donors/partners such as trusts, foundations, companies and high net worth individuals. This includes proactively identifying funding opportunities, network and solicit donor intelligence and share information on donor profiles (policies, preferences, geographical focus).
- Draft appealing proposals and concepts in collaboration with the programs team to ensure relevance to community needs and in line with COVAW’s Strategic Areas of Focus.
- Work with the finance team to update the organisation funding status and grid on a monthly basis.
- Support the program teams to produce timely and high quality program reports as per stipulated periods and requirements informed by internal and external timeframes.
· Advise programme quality teams, finance, working groups on relevant donor requirements/compliance, potential funding opportunities, changes in donor priorities ensuring quality grant management for all projects. Act as the interface between finance and programme quality teams to ensure grant compliance.
- Develop, manage and update Friends of COVAW databases to record their contacts and preference information; Maintaining a network of corporate contacts and effectively managing and maximizing these relationships.
- Collaborate with the finance team to organize resource mobilization events for example, Donor Round Tables, Social media campaigns and other related activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A degree in Finance, Economics, Social Sciences, Marketing, Communications and Public Relations or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of demonstrated experience in the NGO sector in project management and specifically developing funding proposals with high quality analysis and reporting skills.
- A proven track record of fundraising from major donors, corporate and foundations including DFID, USAID, EU, UN, ECHO, Embassies and other development agencies.
- Good understanding in monitoring and evaluation and its application in resource mobilisation including in-depth understanding of logical frameworks and data analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment, often at a distance.
- Ability to prioritize own workload and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to coordinate complex proposal development teams.
- Have high energy, confident presenter who is able to engage people and get them to commit funding/and or to partnering with COVAW.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong networking skills and excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
