ABOUT FAIRTRADE AFRICA
Fairtrade Africa (FTA) is the umbrella network organization representing Fairtrade certified producers and workers in Africa. It has four (4) regional networks – Eastern Africa; Southern Africa; West Africa; and the Middle East and North Africa. Established in 2005, FTA aims to effectively represent producers and workers within the International Fairtrade System and provide services to them that contribute to the improvement of their livelihoods. The FTA Board directs policy and strategic development of the organization.
JOB PURPOSE
To improve the socio-economic conditions of African producers through increased access to better trading conditions.
The aim of the West Africa EQUITE II program is to contribute to sustainable economic development, fight poverty and strengthen family farming by supporting the development of fair and climate-resilient value chains in West Africa.
This global objective is broken down into five complementary specific objectives (SO):
· SO1. Support the structuring of Producer Organizations (POs) and the value chains in which they operate
· SO2. Strengthen the commercial, governance and management capacities of Fairtrade cocoa cooperatives in Côte d’Ivoire
· SO3. Strengthen fair trade institutional ecosystems
· SO4. Use fair trade as a lever for accelerating ecological transitions in production and processing methods that can lead to organic certification;
· SO5. Ensure the promotion of gender equality and the inclusion of young people in fair trade chains.
The Equity II program will run for four years and will be implemented in a differentiated manner in six West African countries as follows: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali and Togo. All products subject to fair trade certification are eligible: cocoa, fruits (mango, pineapple, baobab, etc.), shea, cashew nuts, handicrafts, sesame, coffee, Hibiscus, etc.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
- Coordinate the producer needs assessment program and the development of programming activity in line with the regional and FTA objectives and the EQUITY 2 Project
- Develop and implement project plans to ensure that each project is delivered successfully, on time and meets the agreed objectives of the wider strategy
- Develop and coordinate capacity development work plans and ensure effective implementation through the management of Officers.
- Manage to implement partnerships with other organizations to further FTA’s programming activities.
· Support the production of regional communications including drafting articles for newsletters, assisting in compiling and drafting of producer experiences and sharing of best practices.
· Develop plans for producers and member organizations to maximize their engagement and participation through excellent communication and relationship management.
- Monitor budget disbursements for field staff programming activities.
External Relations
- Manage communications with existing donors and delivery partners, to promote deeper engagement, loyalty and maximizes long term value.
- Develop relationships with partners including identifying potential partners, nurturing relationships and support proposal writing.
Reporting
- Lead and coordinate the preparation of financial, donor and program progress reports
- Ensure the effective monitoring and evaluation of projects tree components.
- Work with the M&E Officer in the collection of monitoring data to coordinate impact or evaluation studies ongoing in the region
General Management
- Ensure the provision of reports on grants, M&E, Finance, Program activity
- Plan, coordinate and execute the annual operational plan, providing the project team with the needed direction to achieve results and hold them accountable.
- Support staff in developing realistic work plans based on programmatic needs.
- Regularly discuss performance, giving timely, constructive feedback, providing support to address issues and acting when necessary
- Provide technical support, guidance and development for team members
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agriculture or related field
- IT system certificates will be an advantage
Experience and Knowledge
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in agricultural development
- Experience in supporting ethical and sustainable supply chains
- Knowledge of agricultural development and sustainable business practices
- Knowledge of Fairtrade standards and processes
- knowledge on It system and platform set up and IMS systems
Skills
