Scope of Work

The RCM Project Lead will oversee the start-up and implementation of the RCM project focused on area profiling and thematic analysis of the returns context and landscape in Syria. This role will include the design and oversight of research and analysis activities, managing team members and team deliverables, internal coordination, and donor and partner relations. In addition to the RCM focused deliverables, the RCM Project Lead will work within the broader iMMAP research and analysis team to provide in-depth quantitative and qualitative analytical support to Syria and other regionally focused projects.

Essential Duties

The RCM Project Lead will primarily be involved in overseeing and conducting research, analysis and report writing according to the RCM’s research needs and project deliverables. The RCM Project Lead will also contribute to research design and representation of the iMMAP R&A team in various fora. Specific roles include:

  • Oversee the development and design of the RCM’s research plan for completing the project’s deliverables;
  • Oversee the identification, recruitment, and management of RCM team members and field researchers.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities and functions of RCM team members in accordance with the project’s research goals;
  • Regularly interface with donor representatives and partner organizations to provide project updates, contextual briefings, and advise on returns focused programming;
  • Regularly attend and maintain close relations with relevant sector working groups, to include but not limited to the regional and country level Durable Solutions and Protection Working Groups.
  • Provide high quality research and analysis on the returns context in Syria enabling an evidence-based understanding of the landscape, as contextualized through a lens of Durable Solutions;
  • Utilize both open source research and key informant interviews to look into cross-sectoral issues in the region as needed;
  • Contribute to research design, methodological development and strategic planning for iMMAP’s Research and Analysis Unit.
  • Utilize the R&A units resources and networks to maintain an informed understanding of political, economic, and social developments in areas relevant to the R&A Unit’s activities for inclusion in analysis and timely alerting of appropriate actors;
  • Capacity to articulately and comprehensively present research findings both in organized events and ad hoc meetings as needed;
  • Contribute to production of regular written reports and dashboards;
  • Internally coordinate with iMMAP’s functional units and technical specialists for data collection, visualization, imagery and GIS;
  • Contribute to Requests for Information from partners and business development opportunities as needed; and,
  • Additional tasks as needed, contributing to iMMAP global projects.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years experience in overseeing Returns and IDP monitoring, conflict analysis, and/or geopolitical contextual reporting in support of Syria programming is required;
  • Extensive understanding of the Syrian conflict and the operational response is required;
  • Proven experience in reporting on conflict and political analysis in the MENA region;
  • In-depth knowledge of political, cultural, and humanitarian context of Syria, Iraq and the region;
  • Experience with contextual and predictive analysis based on quantitative and qualitative findings;
  • Ability to operate in cross-cultural environment and work independently;
  • Understanding of and/or proficiency in KoBo, GIS software, and/or Power BI an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required;
  • Fluency in English speaking and writing required. Proficiency in spoken Arabic required.
