Synergy for Justice is seeking a project research assistant/intern to contribute to the development of an assessment and organizational change toolkit for conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) cases in justice processes. This person will provide research and admin support to a technical team of experts as they work to identify structural, procedural, and practice issues which feed the high attrition rate of sexual violence cases and make recommendations and tools which help tackle those issues and promote organisational change. This remote position pays 145 euros/day for a total of approximately 77 days between October and June. Exact schedule and timeline of deliverables to be discussed with the final candidate.
Responsibilities:
• Research and creation of a reference library to support the Technical Team (TT) working on the development of the Stigma Toolkit;
• Feed that research and resources into partner reference resources;
• Direct support to members of the TT to find relevant resources to assist them with their development work;
• Attendance and note-taking at project meetings, TT workshops, consultation meetings;
• Receipt, organization and basic collation of feedback from consultation process;
• Support to the TT during editing and consultation response/adaptation phase;
• Serving as an administrative bridge between the project team and TT in terms of preparing monthly updates on the work and progress;
• Organising record- keeping of project correspondence and work materials for the team; and
• Any other assistance as reasonably requested by the technical or project team.
Required Qualifications
• An advanced degree in law, human rights, or associated field;
• At least 2 years’ experience in either criminal justice processes or in researching justice issues;
• Verbal and written English fluency;
• Strong research skills across disciplines;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Understanding of criminal justice functions and processes in different jurisdictions;
• Excellent record-keeping skills; and
• Ability to work independently to meet competing deadlines.
Desirable:
• Experience working in criminal justice systems, including international criminal tribunals;
• Experience working on or researching CRSV or on the stigma associated with sexual violence;
• Experience working with experts and in multi-disciplinary teams;
• A gender (and intersectional) lens to their work;
• A good understanding of survivor-centred approaches; and
• An understanding of implicit bias, stigma and sexual violence myths and misunderstandings.
