Summary of position:
The High Commission of Canada in Guyana has a requirement for a Property Assistant at the LE05 level with responsibilities under the general supervision of the Property Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Property Maintenance: The Common Services team at mission delivers property maintenance services required in support of the property business line, which may include maintenance of the mission’s staff quarters, official residence(s), chancery, compound(s), warehouse(s) and other properties and their building systems. Materiel Management: The Common Services team at mission delivers materiel management services of purchasing, receipt, inventory, storage, distribution, interior decoration, maintenance, repair, and disposal of materiel for the mission. Materiel may include major and minor appliances, technical equipment, household furnishings, office furniture, carpets, drapes, tools, spare parts, office supplies, hospitality equipment and pack up kits. Events Coordination: The Common Services team ensures the delivery of the logistics for all mission hospitality and team-building events and may deliver the logistics for other events as determined, including the coordination and schedules of functions held at the Official Residence, Chancery and/or at private third locations designated by program managers; ensures that quotations are regularly sought from service providers; and keeps a registry of local and Canadian stakeholders. stakeholders.


Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
High School Diploma with a minimum of five (5) passes including Maths and English

Language:
Fluency in English (oral and written)

Experience:
A minimum of two years recent and related experience working in property maintenance, materiel management, events coordination and supervision.

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
Demonstrated working knowledge of basic domestic wirings and plumbing as it relates to local building codes; basic vehicle, water pump & generator servicing; basic methods, materials, tools & terminology of general construction. Possess good supervisory skills as in leadership, communication, critical thinker/problem solver, etc. Demonstrated competency in computer software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)

Hours of work: Normal work week 37.5 hours. (Mondays-Thursdays 08:00-16:30hrs, Fridays 08:00-13:30hrs. -Work Schedule is subject to change. -Ability to work overtime is mandatory.


Condition(s) of Employment:
Ability to retain a Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability Security Screening. -Holder of a recent Police Clearance issued by the Guyana Police Force. -Holder of a valid driver’s licence (manual vehicles is mandatory) -Eligibility to live and work in Guyana. The Conditions of Employment are mandatory requirements for continued employment with the High Commission of Canada in Guyana. These may be reviewed on a periodic basis and failure to meet any of the mandatory conditions may result in a change to employment status up to and including dismissal.
