Stratas Advisors is seeking a paid trainee analyst for its Renewables & Alternatives department. The primary task of this position will be conducting research on EU and global hydrogen policies and markets. This includes gathering and analyzing market data, as well as detailed information on new legislation, technologies, trends, and economics. Occasionally, the trainee might be asked to work on ad hoc tasks and consulting engagements related to conventional or other alternative fuels and markets.

We offer our clients an array of transport/energy services and consulting engagements. COVID-19 has had far-going implications for these sectors. Despite short-term lower fossil-fuel prices, the pandemic appears to have accelerated some aspects of the low-carbon energy transition. In addition, major economies have launched national hydrogen strategies and set green hydrogen production in order to facilitate its deployment across the transport sector and different ‘hard-to-abate’ sectors. In this fast-paced environment, we are looking for research support.

The trainee analyst will gather information, critically review it and distill key takeaways and implications, provided to clients both through Stratas research products and bespoke consulting engagements. Strong teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently are critical to this role.

Based in Paris, the traineeship duration will be between three and six months. The contract will be signed in the form of a “Convention de stage”. In addition, a monthly gratification of €800 will be received by the trainee for a 35-hour working week.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and collect data/information on hydrogen policies and markets, including capacity additions, fiscal policies, refueling infrastructure and sales of fuel cells electric vehicles, trade dimensions and developments by competitors, at a country and regional level.
  • With the help of Stratas Advisors’ database support team, streamline overall data gathering and handling for the Global Hydrogen Outlook service.
  • Regularly update country profiles, fiscal and capacity databases which constitute an underlying part of the Global Hydrogen Outlook service.
  • Prepare written analysis of markets and policies in reports/memos/data provided for internal Stratas use and for clients, as well as in other forms, such as Powerpoint slides or Excel data.
  • Help coordinate data and information sharing between the Hydrogen team and other teams within Stratas Advisors (e.g. Biofuels/Alternative Fuels, Automotive and Fuels Specifications teams).
  • Provide both analytical support and market insight into strategic consulting engagements on an ad hoc basis.
  • The trainee analyst will also provide research and analytical support to other Stratas teams such as the Fuel Specifications team on a partial basis as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Experience in an analyst/research role.
  • BA/BS is required. An MA/MS in progress, specifically in economics, transportation or energy is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent level of English is a must, working knowledge of any other languages is a plus.
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Power Point etc.
  • Quantitative skills with comfort level using MS Excel are desirable.
  • High level of personal interest and enthusiasm in low-carbon energies and solutions, decarbonization strategies for transport and beyond.
  • Understanding of low-carbon solutions including the evolving green hydrogen industry, basic familiarity with foundational technologies, trends, and regulatory environment is a plus.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities such as consulting is desirable.
