For Unit 19, “Sexually Transmitted Bacterial Pathogens”, Department 1, “Infectious Diseases” we seek a
Research Scientist (all genders)
(salary dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with the public sector wage scale TVöD up to grade E14)
to begin on 1 September 2021.
This is a permanent position.
The place of work is in Berlin-Mitte.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Gathering, evaluation and interpretation of data on phenotypic and genotypic antibiotic resistance surveillance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in Germany, including phylogenetic analyses
- Further development of phenotypic and genotypic antibiotic resistance surveillance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Research on the emergence, detection and spread of resistances in Neisseria gonorrhoeae, as well as the significance of the microbiome for these processes
- Presentation of data on a national and international level
- Publication of data in scientific journals
- Applying for project funding
- Readiness to work cooperatively with different groups
Requirements and qualifications:
- University graduate in the sciences (degree level/Master’s) with a Ph.D. in human biology, biochemistry, biology, or in life sciences, with a Ph.D. in a relevant field desirable
- Experience in microbiology and handling of bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistance, with experience with Neisseria gonorrhoeae or other sexually transmitted bacteria preferred
- Expertise in planning, application and evaluation of molecular and microbiological methods
- Experience in carrying out, gathering results and analysing and interpreting of antibiotic resistance tests
- Experience in gathering, analysis and evaluation of sequencing data (NGS and Sanger)
- Experience in planning and implementing research projects
- Experience in directing laboratory staff and students
- Experience in project and laboratory management advantageous
- Language skills (CEFR level): English, at least C1
Although no German skills are required, applicants will be encouraged to develop such skills to maximize their integration in our institute.
