THE POSITION

The discovery and development of innovative treatments for Neuropsychiatric Disorders is a priority for Boehringer Ingelheim. The Central Nervous System Diseases Research Department (CNS DR) at Boehringer Ingelheim offers the opportunity to contribute to drug discovery using cutting-edge technologies in a dynamic, highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

We are looking for a talented Research Scientist to work as part of a team of experts dedicated to the exploration of brain circuits and systems underlying neuropsychiatric disorders.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you are responsible for the independent design, execution, interpretation and documentation of scientific experiments in line with the goals and objectives of the Central Nervous System Diseases Research (CNS DR) department at Boehringer Ingelheim.
  • You are responsible for enabling and applying state-of-the-art technologies for performing functional imaging in ex vivo brain tissues and / or cultured cells using genetically encoded and / or chemical sensors.
  • By using the above technologies, you design and execute studies and generate data to support ongoing projects in the CNS DR portfolio.
  • You directly participate in scientific discussions in all aspects, including data analysis, interpretation and reporting of data to project teams and senior management.
  • The role may include instruction, guidance and supervision of technical and scientific staff with or without direct line responsibility.
  • You collaborate within the CNS department and with stakeholders from other areas of the company as well as with academic partners, as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology or a related discipline, preferably with a successful completed post-doctoral fellowship
  • Expertise with fluorescent imaging techniques in living cells / tissues, in particular two-photon microscopy
  • Experience with acute ex-vivo brain slice electrophysiology or imaging, expertise with in vivo imaging would be of advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of neurophysiology and demonstrated scientific knowledge in experimental electrophysiology and neural signal processing of neuronal activity datasets 
  • Track record of presenting relevant topics at scientific congresses and publishing in high impact scientific journals
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken & written) are mandatory; German would be of advantage
