Research Technician

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Research Technician to work in the Functional Genomics Research Centre in the laboratory of Dr. Lorenzo Calviello: https://humantechnopole.it/en/research-groups/calviello-group/ https://calviellolab.github.io/

The Calviello Lab is a hybrid computational/experimental research group interested in post-transcriptional gene regulation, with a focus on translation and its connections to mRNA and proteome dynamics.

The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Calviello and will work in close collaboration with other team members and the entire HT campus.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the initial setup of the laboratory at the Human Technopole.
  • Manage responsibly the inventory of lab supplies, samples and equipment.
  • Perform standard molecular biology tasks (e.g. molecular cloning, tissue culture).
  • Lead the implementation of NGS library preparations protocols.
  • Optimize experimental methods centered around protein and RNA biochemistry (e.g. protein/RNA purification techniques, PCR methods, western blotting, ultracentrifugation).
  • Train other members of the lab in performing standard experimental methods and support the implementation of new state-of-the art techniques.
  • Record data and protocols in a detailed and well-organized electronic form.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or closely related discipline. A PhD degree would be considered an advantage, but it is not strictly required.
  • Extensive experience in an experimental laboratory setting, with key responsibilities in lab management.
  • Independence in performing standard mammalian tissue culture and basic molecular biology and microscopy tasks. Previous experience with organoid culture systems is considered a plus.
  • Experience in cell transfection experiments, RNA interference and genome editing (CRISPR-Cas systems) for generation of stable cell lines.
  • Ability to optimize conditions for RNA, proteins, and protein-RNA complex extraction and purification (e.g. ultracentrifugation, polysome profiling, crosslinking – immunoprecipitation).
  • In-depth knowledge of next generation library preparation techniques. Previous experience with Ribo-seq, CLIP-seq, RIP-seq or similar techniques is considered a strong plus.

Required personal skills

  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Interest in learning and developing new methodologies, in close collaboration with other members of the lab and HT departments.
  • Having strong interpersonal skills will be fundamental, given the technician’s central role in every aspect of the lab’s life.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and diverse environment.

Please apply by sending a CV, a motivation letter in English, and contact information for 3 references.
