RFP-CONSULTANCY TO REVIEW THE COST OF BIODIVERSITY SUBSIDIES AND PROPOSE OPTIONS FOR BIODIVERSITY HARMFUL SUBSIDIES

Overview :

In line with Aichi Target 3 of the Convention on Biological Diversity which states to eliminate, phase out or reform all subsidies harmful to biodiversity, The Government of Botswana in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme will undertake a study to advance achievement towards this Target.

The overall objective of the study is to gather evidence of both positive and negative impacts of subsidies on biodiversity/ ecosystems/nature, with a view of proposing repurposing options for prioritized subsidies harmful to biodiversity. The specific objectives include.

  • Collect existing evidence on biodiversity impacts (both positive and negative) of the subsidies in the selected sectors.
  • Provide recommendations to change/reform/repurpose prioritized subsidies harmful to biodiversity
  • Establish gender related impacts in accessing subsidies, particularly in rural communities
  • Establish processes followed to institute and avail subsidies
