Oxfam is looking to recruit a safeguarding specialist to the Oxfam DRC country team as the current safeguarding advisor is moving to a Regional safeguarding role within Oxfam.  There will be opportunity for hand over as part of the induction process from the exiting DRC advisor.

The Role

The Safeguarding Advisor position is a Strategic Role that helps to deliver Oxfam’s Safeguarding Strategy to protect those we work with from sexual exploitation and abuse perpetrated by Oxfam representatives. He/she will support management in coordinating the implementation of Oxfam’s safeguarding policies and procedures at country-level. He/she will play an essential part in promoting good practice and helping the organization and Country Programme reach the highest safeguarding standards by our staff, volunteers, partners, related personnel, beneficiaries and contractors, as well as for the communities where we work

What we are looking for

Oxfam DRC is looking for a self-assured, experienced Safeguarding Advisor who wants to contribute to the development of a large and DRC orientated safeguarding programme.

The person should have: Experience of working with children and adults who have witnessed or experienced exploitation and (child)abuse; experience of working to prevent sexual exploitation and (child) abuse; A clear understanding of sexual harassment, exploitation and (child) abuse risk factors (such as gender and power inequalities); Demonstrable experience of working with survivors of sexual violence; Skilled in identifying and mitigating risks ; Strong facilitation and presentation skills  Excellent written and spoken French ((must be evidenced in application or candidates will not be shortlisted); Excellent written and spoken English; Excellent communication skills, especially active listening ; Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and influence using a variety of different styles, taking into account cultural differences; Commitment to upholding and modelling Oxfam’s values, demonstrating integrity, diplomacy, professionalism, reliability and resilience at all times; Ability to quickly build personal rapport and trust; Empathy for the challenges survivors face in reporting and the pressures an investigation places on all stakeholders, including the alleged perpetrator and management.

The role will be matrix managed by the HECA regional safeguarding advisor and will link closely with the Oxfam GB safeguarding team
