Scientist Transgenic Embryology Core

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible individual to work in a core facility generating genetically engineered mouse and rat models for investigators in the Department of Developmental Neurobiology. Direct hands-on experience with mice is required, hands-on experience with rats is preferred.

The ideal candidate will already be proficient in animal and embryo handling, dissection, anesthesia, and micro-surgery. Experience is preferred in the generation of genetically modified animals by micro-injection (both pronuclear and cytoplasmic), and embryo electroporation. A willingness to learn new concepts and technical skills is optimal.

The candidate should exhibit skill in written and oral communication, the ability to effectively collaborate with co-workers and scientists, and the ability to execute tasks in a timely manner are highly desired. Some weekend and holiday work will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently work on animal model projects
  • Adapt to changing priorities and schedule adjustments
  • Keep meticulous online records, and update regularly
  • Adopt new tools and techniques according to needs of department

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience

Scientist

  • Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD.

 Sr. Scientist

  • Ten (10) years relevant post-degree work experience is required.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree.
  • Six (6) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD.
