This is a new exciting opportunity, that has been created to underpin the culture of accountability at CARE, and to ensure that our programs are safe and prevent sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse.

The post holder reports to the Director of Safeguarding and PSHEA, with strong links to program and gender justice work. This person will have a strong background in program design, and the program cycle, and must be able to work across CARE teams and departments ensuring a joined up approach across disciplines. Convening and coordinating with key stakeholders and experts across the organisation.

The post holder will be a technical expert and specialist in mainstreaming safeguarding and PSHEA principles into programs, designing and testing tools to be used and adopted across a number of types of programs including emergency response, gender, livelihoods, education and health. He/she will take responsibility for ensuring that CARE offices are actively engaged in preventing sexual harassment exploitation and abuse through good program design and awareness, and that design and delivery of effective community based complaints and feedback mechanisms is in place.

This is a global role and (40%) travel is a key aspect of this role. The post holder is required to travel to locations of humanitarian disaster and conflict as part of this role and should be willing and able to do so (the role is home based during the COVID 19 pandemic).

Qualifications:

  • Expert in mainstreaming Safeguarding into program design in International NGO context
  • Master’s degree of education or equivalent
  • 10 years’ experience of program design (program cycle) in humanitarian and development context
  • Excellent training coaching and facilitation skills
  • Project management skills and qualification (desirable)
  • Technical skills and knowledge in PSHEA and Safeguarding
  • Expertise in program design and monitoring (Program cycle)
  • Ability to run a number of complex processes and projects at the same time, staying on track
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Risk management experience
  • High levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • Tenacity and drive
  • Ability to take tough decisions
  • Excellent relationship builder and networker
  • Confident and self-assured but acts with humility
  • Has excellent skills in project management and driving change
