Level: Officer Classification: LE08 Location: Consulate General of Canada in Sydney Closing date for applications: 07-12-2020 at 23:59 UTC/GMT Summary of position: Under the general direction of the Consul (Management and Consular Services), the incumbent of this position implements consular policy and objectives to deliver consular services to members of the Canadian public within New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, Australia. Key duties include the following: • Administers the consular assistance and emergency services programs for Canadians; • Manages operations for delivery of the passport and citizenship programs; • Administers and controls the legal and notary services program; • Manages the consular cost recovery programs; • Develops and maintains productive relationships with local authorities, organizations and other diplomatic missions; • Supervises consular services staff. Essential qualifications: Essential Qualifications: Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Education: • Successful completion of a bachelor’s level university degree from a recognized institution or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Language: • Excellent communication skills both oral and written in English are required. French language ability would be an asset. Experience: • Relevant experience in the provision of client services in compliance with legislation and regulations • Experience in supervising staff • Experience in building and maintaining a network of professional external contacts for the purposes of advancing the interests of the organization • Experience in developing and implementing standard operating procedures, processes, best practices and guidelines for a team. • Experience dealing with people in crisis. Rated Requirements: The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment. Knowledge: • General knowledge of consular services; • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Competencies and Abilities: • Strong verbal and written communication skills; • Focused on quality and details; • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively in a team environment; • Shows initiative; • Able to identity and solve problems.
