The Surgical Centre, opened in 2001, is the reference hospital for traumatology for the entire Sierra Leone: many patients are transferred to Goderich from hospitals in other provinces and sometimes also from neighbouring Countries.

Limited at first to urgent and war-related surgery, our admission criteria have progressively expanded. Today they cover traumatology, urgent surgery for treatment of pathologies such as hernias and intestinal perforations, and elective surgery.

For its Surgical Centre in Goderich, Freetown, Sierra Leone EMERGENCY is looking for:

  • 1 General Surgeon
  • 1 Orthopeadic Surgeon

Those roles require complete and autonomous management of general/orthopaedic surgical procedures (including major surgical procedures), and shared clinical responsibility in post-operative care.

Necessary requirements:

  • Medical Degree;

  • Full registration with an appropriate professional body;

  • Specialisation in General Surgery/Orthopaedic Surgery (Masters or Postgraduate

Degree);

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience as first surgeon;

  • Hospital setting experience in the General/Orthopaedic, Emergency and/or Trauma

Surgery departments;

  • Ability to work well as a part of multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams;

  • Fluency in English is essential.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and following of the hospital admissions criteria, guidelines, protocols, and the diagnosis and treatment standards in use in the Centre;

  • Management of general/orthopaedic surgical procedures;

  • Participation in post-operative care and clinical management of surgical patients;

  • Ensuring the correct compilation of clinical records and statistics in both computer and paper formats.

Working hours: as per Hospital’s duty roster

Salary: as per organizational salary scale
