Are you an inspiring team lead and do you have experience in running large programs within an international NGO? Do you have strong coordination and planning skills and experience in the field?

Then we have a challenging position for you! We are looking for a positive can-do minded Team Lead Programs.

About your department

You will be working in the department Lobby, Expertise & Programs, especially focused on the program team that currently consist of 7 program & project managers and coordinators.

Terre des Hommes is operating 78 projects in 13 different countries. Most of the projects are designed and managed from one of the country offices, in cooperation with local partners. Terre des Hommes is also engaged in multi-stakeholder partnerships and alliances, which are mostly managed from the Netherlands. You will be working with our program managers who are responsible for running our biggest programs: Down to Zero, Mica, Girls Advocacy Alliance and Watch 24/7. Most of these programs are done in cooperation with other NGOs through consortia with external donors.

We will challenge you to lead, innovate and motivate our Program Managers Team. You will report to the Head of Lobby &Expertise and Programs.

The team lead position has a managerial and an operational character:

  • You have a coaching style of leadership to coach a team of professionals .
  • You will advise and help the program managers and project managers with the planning and coordination of proposals and implementations.
  • You like to contribute to the design and implementation of international programs, including PME, budget. etc
  • You will contribute strategically to the development and improvement of the department policies and practices.
  • You are responsible for realizing the team objectives and creating a cohesive team with a good team atmosphere.
  • You make sure best practices are shared between the different programs
  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day decision making and you will coordinate closely with the manager of the program team and the TdH leadership team

Your main focus will be:

  1. Preparing and realizing a team plan with explicit objectives that can be achieved by the team.
  2. Managing the team in a cohesive manner and making sure team members are guided, happy and motivated to achieve previously defined results, efficiently and effectively. Make sure team members can develop themselves to the full and can work independently, while coaching them along the way.
  3. Improving working processes. To achieve a higher level of efficiency and effectiveness in the execution of the programs in order to keep increasing the impact we make for children.
  4. Reporting and representing your team to external parties and the manager of the department

Your Knowledge and skills

  • Relevant Master (university) degree
  • At least 5 years program management experience in an (I)NGO
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in leading and coaching dynamic teams
  • Experience with brokering public-private partnerships and covenants and representing NGO’s interests therein;
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically, including the ability to think beyond the programs context and to act within a regional and global framework;
  • Knowledge of effective financial and budgetary controls; proven ability to manage budgets;
  • Demonstrated successful experience with fundraising
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix management environment;
  • Entrepreneurial, result driven and able to cooperate;
  • Can do mentality and a positive attitude;
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and inspire others by providing guidance and direction in the attainment of clear and challenging goals.
  • Fluent in English and preferably in Dutch and French
