Tetra Tech International Development (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for various potential technical specialist positions on a USAID-funded program in Nepal. The five-year USAID-funded Jal Jangal (Freshwater and Forests) Activity will focus on improving the health of ecosystems and biological diversity, environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience and addressing environmental crime in Nepal. The Activity will work with the Government of Nepal (GON), community groups, civil society, and private sector actors, and will align with GON’s vision of “Conservation of biodiversity for sound and resilient ecosystems and national prosperity.”

Technical specialists will provide technical and management leadership and contributions to activities within their field of expertise to achieve project outcomes. These would be full-time positions based in Nepal for the full life of project (anticipated five years).

Tetra Tech seeks candidates specialized in the following areas:

Ecologist/Conservation Biologist (Freshwater and/or Terrestrial): experienced in environmental monitoring and conservation of biodiversity and ecological processes in Nepal’s freshwater and forested ecosystems . The Specialist will provide technical and managerial oversight to project activities related to biodiversity conservation and protection of the freshwater and forested ecosystems within the targeted river basins and terrestrial landscapes.

Natural Resource Management Specialist (Freshwater and/or Terrestrial): experienced in natural resource management practices and policies in Nepal, related to freshwater and forests. The Specialist will strengthen the capacity of stakeholders (communities, protected area and forest managers, community forest user groups, river basin organizations, government, and private sector) to strengthen sustainable management and governance over Nepal’s natural resources in target river basins and terrestrial landscapes.

Climate Change Adaptation Specialist: experienced in working with Nepali institutions to understand and address the negative impacts of climate variability and change on communities, and the freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems they depend on for their well-being. The Specialist will work with stakeholders, and partners to design and implement strategies to mitigate risk, foster resilience and build adaptive capacity.**

Wildlife Trafficking/Environmental Crime Enforcement Specialist: experienced in combating wildlife trafficking activities to reduce illegal trade of wildlife, including domestically in Nepal and on a larger sub-regional and/or international level. The Specialist will provide technical leadership in the assessment and strengthening of environmental crime-related policies and judicial processes to improve their application and effectiveness in Nepal and strengthen understanding of and solutions for human-wildlife conflict to improve protections for wildlife while ensuring human security.

Qualifications:

* Minimum of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is required;

* At least seven (7) years of experience in the respective field of technical expertise; preferably in the environmental/forestry/water sector, and working on large donor funded projects;

* Proven track record collaborating with a diverse array of stakeholders and fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and social inclusion with women, youth, indigenous and other vulnerable populations;

* Professional fluency in English and Nepali required;
