With over 850 indigenous languages, and one f the most ethnically diverse populations, widespread poverty and gender inequality make it hard for many children to realize their rights.  In Papua New Guinea (PNG), UNICEF’s works effectively both ‘upstream’ (with governments) and ‘downstream’ (at the grassroots level) to carry out its mission through a programme of cooperation jointly developed with the government guides our work in the country.

How can you make a difference?

Under the Chief Education, the Specialist supports the development and preparation of the Education (or a sector of) programmes and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting the progress of education programmes/projects within the country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of results on education (emergency) programmes/projects to improve learning outcomes and equitable and inclusive education, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society. This temporary post will participate in strategic programme discussions on the planning of education programmes. Formulate, design and prepare programme proposals for the sector, including a Global Partnership for Education (GPE) System Capacity Grant application in close collaboration with key government partners.

As a champion for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.

  • Experience working in a developing country is required.

  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is preferred.

  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
