How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance and general supervision of the Chief, Education (Level 4), the Specialist is based in Suva, Fiji and is responsible for designing, managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting the progress of programming related to education system strengthening and resilience across the UNICEF Pacific education programme (at Pacific regional level as well as in 14 Pacific Island countries), including evidence-based sector and school planning, school management and improvement, education data, disaster risk reduction, resilience, risk-informed planning, and education in emergencies, including COVID-19. 

The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of results in strengthening and building resilience of education systems,  ultimately with an aim to improve learning outcomes for all, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society, including in times of emergency.

The Specialist contributes to the achievement of results according to plans, allocation results in based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. Experience in the Pacific is an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
