Project Summary:

Gender and Social Inclusion specialist to provide strategic guidance and advice on gender and empowerment of women and vulnerable populations in the design and implementation of a wide range of violence and migration prevention activities which will inform a diverse group of interested parties of the program for an upcoming tender in Honduras. With the aim of ensuring that gender equality is effectively incorporated into all activities and operational areas of the project in line with CREATIVE standards and the criteria described by the USAID/USG.

He or she shall work closely with the COP, the DCOP, the members of the technical team and the Grant Manager to interact with key stakeholders to guide the gender approach in the project both in its internal policies and in its relationship with counterparts and implementation activities strategy for the prevention of violence and irregular migration.

Position Summary:

Creative Associates is looking for a Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist for a donor-funded project in Honduras. Working closely with the senior management of the project, the Specialist provides technical and strategic guidance for gender-focused implementation in the project, will be responsible for overseeing in partnership with area technicians’ partners to conceptualize and develop initiatives that will support the implementation of this strategy with a gender and inclusion approach creating a link between the various sectors with which interact with the project.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Gender and Social Inclusion specialist will report to the Chief of Party.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

The Specialist will have principal responsibility for:

  • Develops the gender strategy for the project and an action plan, considering the gender and inclusion guidelines of USAID in line with the project’s work plan.
  • Ensures that the gender approach within the project is clearly articulated, communicated, and supported by all areas of operations and programming.
  • Advises senior management COP and DCOP to develop strong institutional commitment and leadership and accompanies to implement gender equality and inclusion criteria in the various activities of the project.
  • Advises on the best strategies in the implementation of the program, and in the development and management of gender-sensitive activities.
  • Promotes the construction and exchange of knowledge on gender issues.
  • Advises on the communication and promotion activities of the project from an inclusive communication and non-sexist language perspective, with a view to achieving wider recognition of the project’s contribution to gender equality outcomes in Honduras by national stakeholders and partners.
  • Identifies opportunities and accompanies the conceptualization of strategic action interventions that respond to the needs and concerns of women and men, in line with the focus on violence prevention and the prevention of irregular migration.
  • Provides advice on appropriate gender-sensitive indicators in all project activities and supports colleagues in monitoring and reporting results / outputs and targets against agreed indicators, in close cooperation with the MEL team and the DCOP.
  • Analyzes political, economic, and social trends and problems affecting women’s rights in Honduras, producing quarterly analytical reports, proposing a strategic response to the opportunities and challenges in the context of project implementation.
  • Supports the creation and sharing of knowledge of the gender equality project by focusing on achievements, lessons learned, and methodologies used in the implementation and integration of gender equality.
  • Provides a strategic approach to a comprehensive gender approach with the health and justice sector within the framework of project activities and its linkage with community intervention activities.
  • Ensures project leadership in forums and meetings related to gender equality.
  • Monitors the implementation of the gender strategy and project action plan in close communication with DCOP.
  • Accompanies DCOP and staff to sustainably integrate the / gender equality goals into their respective areas of work in operations / program. Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A relevant master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in development cooperation.
  • A minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in promoting gender equality.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in migration and community development.
  • Understanding of the Honduran context
  • Proven experience and relevant knowledge working with health, justice, and education sectors to promote gender equality.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Speaking, writing, and reading fluency in Spanish required. English fluency desired.
