Senior Software Engineer -Backend (Growth and User Identity)

Your Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with internal engineering/security teams and third party vendors to prioritize secure and scalable user identity solutions.
    • Work with architects and engineers to recommend, develop and review  technical designs.
    • Lead the design, development, testing and deployment of identity and access based solutions, delegating effectively to other engineers.
    • Partner with internal compliance teams to identify, remediate, and prevent issues and risks.
    • Mentor and guide fellow engineers remote-first to help them improve their technical ability and become more effective software engineers.

Your Skills:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters degree in Computer Science, MIS/CIS or equivalent work experience.
    • 6+ years of experience working in a relevant software engineering role; preferably with experience of user identity management.
    • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the SDLC, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
    • Expertise in designing highly-scalable and performant micro-services and storage layers using common frameworks, languages, and infrastructure (e.g. Java, Play/Scala, MySql, Elasticseach, and Kafka).
    • Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full SDLC, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience building authentication and authorization features utilizing technologies like OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SSO, JWT.
    • A data-informed mindset, you are strongly motivated by success and learnings through experiments and metrics analysis, and enjoy working cross functionally to justify and  solve challenging problems. 
    • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills with a keen, inquisitive eye for detail along with a passion for high quality standards.
    • Experience building defensive mechanisms to protect accounts from authentication/authorization attacks.
    • A strong sense of ownership, high standards and a bias for action (at Coursera we ship value to our learners multiple times a day).
    • Comfortable working with and integrating 3rd party solutions .
    • Familiarity in following areas: Security, Privacy, Cryptography, Authentication, Authorization, Risk Assessment.
