Job Description
The Department of Communication Studies, University of Missouri-Kansas City, seeks applications for a new 9-month benefit eligible tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in Digital Journalism beginning Fall 2022. This faculty member will focus on one or more fields within digital media/journalism, such as social media reporting, data journalism, AI, drone technology, data visualization, and AR/VR. This position has been created to further the Department’s mission of facilitating high-impact research activities that can broaden interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The Department of Communication Studies is committed to excellence in teaching, and it values professional experience, research, and community service that benefits underserved communities and populations. Candidates may come from academic disciplines such as journalism, mass communication, or related fields, with research expertise in digital communication as broadly defined.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate has a Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication, or a terminal degree in a related field by the start date. A candidate who is ABD will be considered.
The successful candidate should be able to teach undergraduate courses in digital journalism and multimedia reporting, and be able to create courses in areas of their research.
The successful candidate should have a promising research program, for example, publications, conference papers, conference presentations, or other evidence of research, and a desire to conduct interdisciplinary research and secure grant funding.
The successful candidate should also be committed to help create a nurturing environment through teaching and research that will attract and sustain a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, and contributes to social equality and justice.
