European Foundation Centre – Thematic Networks Internship
The European Foundation Centre (EFC) is looking for a student wishing to take a break from their studies, or an individual who has recently finished studying. The position requires a responsible individual who is outgoing, yet with a committed and sensible attitude towards work. Based in Brussels, Belgium this placement offers you the opportunity to live and work in the heart of Europe and provides you with essential employment skills.
Duration:
Up to one year remunerated internship (minimum 6 months) Starting date: as soon as possible. Possibility of remote work during the first months, depending on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Job and Candidate Profile:
EFC is looking for an eager, hard-working and cooperative intern to support its Thematic Networks Department.
The EFC Thematic Networks Department is dealing with content for networking, peer learning, policy, and knowledge and information sharing. Its staff is active in a wide range of topics and activities within European institutional philanthropy, including democracy, disability, environment, arts and culture, migration, and many more. As such, the intern is expected to have a variety of interests relevant to institutional philanthropy in Europe. They will also have to be a proven multi-tasker so as to be able to provide support with various activities to the whole Thematic Networks Coordinators and under the guidance of the Thematic Networks and Communities Manager.
We are looking for a recent graduate or currently enrolled university student with good language, communication and planning skills. A good level of English is essential, ideally in addition to knowledge of another European language. The ideal candidate will exhibit commitment, motivation, professionalism and a strong willingness to learn about institutional philanthropy in Europe.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- 360-degree support to programme managers and network coordinators in the research, design, and implementation of programmatic activities;
- assistance with communication with EFC members and stakeholders;
- assistance with in-house communication with colleagues and staff across departments;
- keep track of and help prepare expense reports;
- prepare meetings and writing meeting minutes;
- assist with the coordination of schedules for meetings;
- communicate with internal and external contacts, including EFC members;
- draft and write summarizing notes, briefs, funding proposals, etc.;
- research developments within EFC’s membership base, their activities and interests and within relevant European and national legislative and political developments;
- assist ad hoc with day-to-day Policy & Programmes activities.
The applicant should have ideally the following attributes:
- Very good written and oral communication skills in English (other languages will be considered as an asset)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, good ICT skills are a strong plus
- Enthusiastic and engaging
- Capable of working well both independently and in a team
- Able to deal with multiple priorities
- Work well under pressure
- Have excellent organisational skills
What the EFC offers:
- Remuneration in accordance with Belgian law (797 € per month)
- Daily lunch vouchers (about 120€ per month)
- Reimbursement of public transport (monthly Brussels metro pass reimbursement for 49€)
- Reimbursement of a language course (up to 62,50€)
- One return trip to the intern’s home country (up to 150€)
