The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the worldwide UK diplomatic network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are seeking to recruit a new member of staff – Accountant and Finance officer to cover a position in a maternity leave
Main roles and responsibilities
60% of the time
- Calculation of LE staff salaries, including overtime , holiday pay, bonuses and allowances
- Follow NAV mandatory submission
- Calculation of fees and expenses to Honorary Consuls- quarterly
- Administration of Embassy Pension Scheme for Country Based Staff
- Administration Embassy Insurance scheme for CBS
- Carrying out A-ordiningen obligations, A-melding, Arbeidsgiveravgift, distribution of pay and deduction certificates
- Submission of Sick leave , parental leave refund from NAV
- General invoice payment , phone bills , Suppliers , VAT reclaim Embassy official
40% of the time
- Liaising directly with external and internal clients over events costing proposal
- Maintain a record for the Ambassador’s residence events including expenditure and billing
- Administrative Induction program for new staff
- Fluency at a C level (both written and spoken) in English and Norwegian
- 3 years’ experience in Finance and administrative work in a similar environment
- Education in business administration, finance or similar
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and other MS Office programmes
- Knowledge IT financial software
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, verbally and in writing
- Understanding of local HR and salary regulation
- Precision in implementing tasks, meticulous attention to detail
- Organised, efficient, self-starter, meet deadlines, flexibility
- A positive ‘can do’ approach to work and the ability to work as part of a team

This is a permanent full-time position, five working days (currently 35 hours net) per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy Oslo are subject to terms and conditions of service in accordance with Norwegian employment law.
The Embassy offers a wide-range of learning and development opportunities. There is an opportunity to develop knowledge of trade policy mechanisms, and access to FCDO Diplomatic Academy, with encouragement to undertake the Trade Practitioner course.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Norway and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
